Healing Ayurveda massages are possibly the most well-known Ayurveda therapies at the moment apart from shirodhara. The oil massage, in particular, is an extremely attractive form of treatment and is taken advantage of by a broad clientele, both as a wellness therapy and as a healing treatment. It is one of the external oil treatments in Ayurveda. In traditional Ayurveda, however, massage is not a stand-alone form of therapy. It is always used as part of a complex regimen for purification, cleansing or invigoration, or is integrated into the daily routine. |

In addition to Ayurveda oil massages, there are also powder massages, massages with pastes, powders, cloths, brushes or silk gloves, depending on your constitution. Depending on the technique used, a calming or vitalising effect can be achieved. It is not only the external body structures such as the skin and hair that benefit from massage, but a positive effect is also achieved with respect to connective tissue, the cardiovascular system, reflex zones and the entire nervous system.

Of course, Ayurveda does not only offer full-body massage whereby the entire body structure is pleasantly tended to. Partial massages of the head, foot, face, back and stomach to target specific areas are also an option.
› The tradition of Ayurveda massage
In traditional Ayurveda, massage is assigned a key role beside the nutrition. Massage is used as part of the daily routine or in panchakarma regimens. The primary objective of massage is to harmonise the vata dosha, which stands for space and air and therefore controls movement. This dosha is of great importance because if disrupted, vata is capable of throwing the other two doshas off balance.
› The effects of Ayurveda massage
In Ayurveda, massage is performed with two main objectives
· Ayurveda massage as a strengthening therapy, which aims to invigorate and regenerate the body.
· Ayurveda massage as a reduction therapy, which is used for cleansing and to minimise excesses. These reduction massages are particularly beneficial for intentional weight loss. | |
